Week Recap 10/15

Hey all!

Congrats to everyone who raced this morning over at Roger Williams Park. It was a fun course, we had some good performances, and the men’s team (Will, Adam, Isaac, and Trev) took home 1st place (and some spiffy new Saucony shoes)! Week Ahead in Running Club

**All runs start and end at the bear statue outside the Nelson Fitness Center. Come early to stretch and put your stuff in the locker rooms (in the Nelson basement)**

Mon 10/16-Fri 10/20: Regular club runs at 4:15 pm.

Tues 10/3: Competitive team workout at 4:15 pm.

This won’t be a regular workout, but Adam will be leading a short and easy session to tune up for the Regionals meet this weekend.

Sat 10/21: Northeast Regional Championships (Milton, NY)

Regionals squad should gather in front of the Nelson around 6:20am for a 6:30am departure (5pm ish return). We’ll be looking to qualify both our men’s and women’s squads for a potential nationals trips in November!

Those not racing are encouraged to meet up for a low-key run at 10am.  

Sun 10/22: Long Run (or Recovery Run) at 10am

Week 2 Recap

Hey all!

First off, congrats to everyone who raced the CVS 5k! We had some great performances and the club won the team championship in the “Friends and Family Teams” category, which may or may not have been the correct category for us to enter. In summary, this email will have: 1) our schedule for the upcoming week, 2) a quick reminder about the upcoming UConn Invite, and 3) a form for those who wish to order club t-shirts ($15). Finally, if you haven’t already, join our Facebook groups (“Brown Running Club” plus “Brown Club Running Team” if you’re interested in racing), as they’re a great way to track what’s going on with running club.  

Week Ahead in Running Club

Mon 9/18-Fri 9/22: Regular club runs at 4:15 pm.

Tues 9/19: Competitive team workout at 4:15 pm. This workout will be a great way to sharpen up your racing fitness, especially for those running UConn this week. We’ll jog over to the Hope HS track and do some interval work at XC race pace.

Saturday 9/23: UConn XC Invite

Depart from Nelson at 8am, back to campus by 3pm.

Saturday 9/23: Regular easy run at 10 am. We’ll have a regular mileage run on Saturday. We may also have a group doing some sort of workout (a tempo run maybe?), if there’s enough people interested who aren’t racing UConn.

Sunday 9/24: Long run at 10 am

Stick around afterwards, and we’ll all head over to the ratty for team brunch!

 

Signing Up for Races

UConn Invitational (Saturday 9/23) — Mansfield, CT

This is a team style cross country meet, featuring a 8k men’s race and a 6k women’s race. We will provide entry and transportation. If you wish to run, please fill out this form by Monday 9/18 at 3pm and we’ll contact you to get squared away with logistics. WE CANNOT GUARANTEE ENTRY FOR ANYONE WHO FILLS OUT THE FORM PAST THE DEADLINE. We will leave campus in zipcars at 8am, and return by 3pm. Additionally, this race and all our subsequent races this term will require you to pay dues and register with the club sports website in order to compete with us.

Dues are $20 for a semester or $30 for a year and help fund travel, entry fees, and uniforms. If dues present a financial hardship, get in touch, and we’ll work out a waiver.

Week 1 Recap

Hey all! Thanks for coming out today for our kickoff run! We had a great turnout and it was exciting to see so many new runners. 

Week Ahead in Running Club

**All runs start and end at the bear statue outside the Nelson Fitness Center. Come early to stretch and put your stuff in the locker rooms (in the Nelson basement)**

Sunday 9/10: Long run at 10 am. We’ll group up by pace and run out the East Bay Bike Path. Long can mean whatever you’re comfortable with, and the out and back nature of the bike path means it’s easy to pick the distance that’s right for you. However, it’s about 2 miles to the start of the bike path, so plan on running at least 4 miles.

Mon 9/11-Fri 9/15: Regular club runs at 4:15 pm. We’ll group up by pace/distance each day depending who shows up. Just like Saturday, we’ll continue to have pace leaders leading runs at different speeds and distances!

Tues 9/12: Competitive team workout at 4:15 pm. This workout will be geared towards those interested in racing this fall. We’ll jog down to India Point Park and do anywhere from 2-5 mile repeats at tempo effort (roughly 30 sec/mile slower than your current 5k fitness). The course is a 1 mile loop, so don’t worry about getting dropped 🙂

Saturday 9/16: Regular easy run and competitive team workout at 10 am. We’ll have a regular mileage run on Saturday, but for those interested in racing, we’ll also have a group jog over to a local track to do an interval session.

Sunday 9/17: Long run at 10 am OR CVS 5k. For those not racing the 5k, we’ll have our typical Sunday long run. For those racing the 5k, we’ll have a group meeting at 9:30 am to jog a mile to the start downtown together.

Signing Up for Races

CVS 5k (Sunday 9/17)

Signing up is easy: just go to the race website and click register. Make sure to choose the join a team option, and select Brown Running Club from the menu on the next page. Online entry closes this Friday. Since the club is not covering entry fees or transportation to this race, you DO NOT have to pay dues or register through the club sports website to run.

The sizes available are Men’s XS – XL, and Youth XS – Youth XL. Note that the Youth sizes are comparable to women’s sizing, i.e. the Youth Large = Women’s Small, and the Youth XL = Women’s Medium.
