Week Ahead in Running Club
We’re super excited to be back on campus, and we can’t wait to get going with daily runs. We’ll begin this Saturday with our kick-off run for the semester at 1pm at the Bear Statue! We’ll resume meeting each day at our normal spot in the Nelson lobby at 4:15pm each weekday, and 10am on the weekends.
This semester, we’ll be updating our website with weekly training guides for sprinters, middle and long distance track runners, and half and full marathoners. These will help those interested in racing to structure their running and perform their best, while also giving people a sense ahead of time as to what the weekly organized workouts will be.
If you ordered gear, watch for emails over the weekend about distribution.
We will be jumping into indoor track right at the start of the term. The mid-distance/distance team plans to workout 1-2 times per week, and we’ll be in the OMAC if the weather calls for it. The sprint team will also continue to have regular sessions, with the details and schedule to be announced soon.
Our two indoor meets this season will be:
Sun Feb 18 — USATF New England Open Championships (Cambridge, MA)
Sat Feb 24 — Harvard NIRCA Invite (Cambridge, MA)
Both of these meets will feature sprint, hurdle, throw, jump, and distance events. We’ll open signups next week.
Outdoor track isn’t for a while, but our first planned meet is the NIRCA Northeast Invitational (Sunday, March 24th) at St. John’s University in Queens, NY. However, this is also the first weekend of spring break (break starts the day before), so it will require some advance planning if you plan to travel over spring break. Please fill out this survey so we can see if there is sufficient interest in this meet to justify our attendance. That way, we can commit to offering the meet, allowing people to plan ahead for spring break travel.
If you’re into longer distance races, a popular winter race is:
Sun, Feb 25 — Hyannis marathon and half marathon (Hyannis, MA)
